ECMS is an annual scientific conference under the responsibility of European Council for Modelling and Simulation. This is an international conference of good reputation within this field and is visited by scientists and industry representatives from all over the world. The conference usually counts about 200 delegates, sometimes almost 300. Submitted articles to the conference are peer-reviewed and published in conference proceedings on Level 1. AAUC has contributed with papers regularly at the ECMS con ferences for many years. For this year's conference in Koblenz, AAUC has been asked to contribute with its own track including track chair and International Program Committee (IPC). Three scientific articles from AAUC have been accepted for publication an d will be presented by the respective authors. Moreover, AAUC has been asked by the ECMS board to host the conference next year 2013. This is a great honour and unique possibility for our scientific staff to build relations with international capacities i n the field of modelling and simulation. Modelling and simulation permeates both educational and research activities at AAUC, with a particular focus on development of simulators for marine operations. Bachelor students and master students in AAUC's rece ntly approved master program in simulation and vizualisation to start up in 2013 complete their theses on these topics through projects with industry partners. Add PhD students and research staff, it appears hosting the ECMS 2013 conference is a perfect f it for AAUC strategic and long-term plans for research and education. In addition to building relations and attracting future scientific personnel, hosting ECMS 2013 will improve public relations of the town of Aalesund, AAUC, and related industry and bu siness. In turn, this can attract more engineering students to AAUC's bachelor and master programmes and also lead to a higher number of paper submissions by AAUC and partners.
