International Workshop on Modelling of Mantle and Lithosphere Dynamics

Tildelt: kr 0,25 mill.

Numerical modeling is a prime tool for studying models of Earth evolution and dynamics. The "International Workshop on Modelling of Mantle and Lithosphere Dynamics" was initiated in 1987 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse (Germany). The workshops usually take place every two years, in various European countries, so far in Germany and France (four times each), and in the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Italy and Switzerland (once each). The next, 13th, workshop is scheduled for August 2013 in Hønefoss (Klækken Ho tel), Norway. The field of numerical modelling in Earth Sciences in Norway has grown substantially over the last years, with new modelling groups established at the University of Oslo (PGP), the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), and the University of Ber gen. This makes Norway the logical choice for hosting the 13th workshop in this series. The Workshop Series has become part of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) Thematic meetings Series in 2011. This implies a support in practical issues, such as abstr act submission, and ensures continuity of this long-standing workshop series.
