NIFU Annual Conference 2013: Researcher role in change

Tildelt: kr 35 000

In May 2013, NIFU organize a seminar on conditions for knowledge production in which changes in the research population/staff is an important issue. We will place particular emphasis on the technical and strategic challenges Norway is facing in the recrui tment of researchers to scientific, technological and economic sciences. What does it take to recruit - and keep the most talented scientists? In Norway, career structure at U.S. universities has always been an important reference for the understanding o f our own system. We would therefore like to invite the distinguished American expert in the field, Professor Martin Finkelstein at Seton Hall University, New Jersey, for a week's stay at the institute on the occasion of the seminar, as the main contribut or and to contribute to the department's professional development. Finkelstein has for years researched and published books and articles on the researchers' working conditions, careers and management of the research sector in America set in the shelter o f global trends (see attached CV). He has also been a leader in terms of international comparative studies of the research as in the project "Changing Academic Profession" (CAP). Besides being one of the foremost experts in their field on the American sid e as well as in relation to Asia, Finkelstein has also a good knowledge of what characterizes research relations and mobility patterns at the global level, see http://www.fpol.no/Forskningspolitikk/SitePages/Fullstory.aspx?ItemId=2&ID=42
