Internasjonal forskningskonferanse; Arctic Frontiers 2014 med fokus på "Humans in the Arctic"

Tildelt: kr 0,25 mill.

Arctic Frontiers 2014 sin forskningsdel arrangeres 22.-24. januar 2014. Forskningsdelen er delt i en human del og en shippingdel. Vi søker om støtte knyttet til den humane delen av konferansen som AMAP er medarrangør av. Den human delen kan sammenfattes på engelsk slik: The environment of the Arctic is changing, and this affects the conditions for humans living in the Arctic for better and for worse. Climate change will lead to less ice and permafrost and thus, increased tourism, fishing, petroleum ac tivities and mining. These activities in the High North will give opportunities and impact socio-economy, demography and traditional lifestyle as well as increase contamination and disturb the natural environment. The cumulative impact may affect life, we llbeing, culture and ultimately the health of people living in the region. Healthy adaption to the changes must be planned. The latest advances in technology and innovative communication are potentially very effective tools with which to reduce risk relat ed to living and working in the Arctic and also maximize the benefits, thus ensuring sustainable development. How can this be done? Arctic Frontiers 2014 will address the scientific challenges ahead. Del 2, "Health and Environment in the Arctic" vil væ re den endelige konferansen hvor resultatene fra EU FP 7 prosjektet ArcRisk, "Arctic Health Risks: Impacts on Health in the Arctic and Europe owing to climate induced changes in contaminant cycling". AMAP er prosjektkoordinator for ArcRisk. Ytterligere i nformasjon finnes på www.arctic-frontiers.com
