Radar mapping of the bed of tributary glaciers of Kronebreen, Svalbard, RIS ID 6660

Tildelt: kr 69 999

This planned fieldwork is part of the modelling project of the subglacial conditions of Kronebreen. It will provide supplementary data to feed the model of Kronebreen subglacial processes. My goal is to inverse the surface velocities of Kronebreen to retr ieve a seasonal evolution of the basal drags at the bed. Kronebreen is fed by tributary glaciers whose ice flow contribution is important, even if the tributaries move relatively slowly compared to the main glacier. At first, we thought one could ignore o r assume quantities for the tributaries but after initial progress in this study, it appears that the tributaries need to be better specified to provide the proper model boundary conditions. While surface velocities and surface topography are already avai lable for most of the domain, the bed geometry has not been obtained for the main tributaries of Kongsbreen and Infantfonna.
