Nordic Physics Days 2015

Tildelt: kr 0,20 mill.

Special attention will be given to the fact that the year 2015 is designated by the UN/UNESCO as the International Year of Light and Light Technologies. With this in mind, we want to invite two to three Nobel Prize winners or other outstanding internation al physicists in this area. Prominent members of the Norwegian Physics Society are in contact with several Nobel Prize winners. These are Steven Chu, Stanford University, former U.S. Secretary of Energy, Nobel Prize in Physics in 1997, Serge Haroche, Coll ège de France and Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, Nobel Prize in Physics in 2012, and Roy Glauber, Harvard University, Nobel Prize in Physics in 2005, and we hope to receive at least two of them in Trondheim. In addition, we aim at inviting several o ther prominent plenum speakers, proposed by the eight subcommittees. We believe that the opportunity to meet such outstanding physicists will mean a tremendous inspiration for in particular the young students attending the conference. Given the experience of previous NPD arrangements, we expect between 300 and 400 participants.
