E!9044 Capturing and bookmarking of surgical and diagnostic videos. Integration in Operating Room (OR) workflows.

Posicom AS har ledet et konsortium der Oslo Universitetssykehus og finske Merivaara Corp har deltatt. Målet for prosjektet var å utvikle nye dokumentasjons- og opplæringsløsninger for kirurger. I prosjektet ble Posicoms unike multimediasystem, Seekuence Medical, videreutviklet og integrert med elektronisk pasient journal. Oslo Universitetssykehus var ansvarlig for metoder og arbeidsflyt. Det ble foretatt kliniske tester og evaluering av resultatene. Posicom bidro med erfaringer fra bruk av video innen idrett. Bruk av video i journal er i dag lite utbredt. Imidlertid er det indikasjoner på at video leder til en bedre og mer objektiv dokumentasjon av pasientbehandlinger, samt til en mer effektiv opplæring av klinisk personell.

The Seekuence Medical project shall transform the current standalone multimedia bookmarking system from Posicom into a plugin software suite and integrate this into Merivaaras OpenOR system for hospital Operating Room (OR). The resulting system will be used to perform clinical tests at Oslo University Hospital (OUS) and Vestre Viken HF (VVHF) to document whether the system is fit for purpose i.e. lead to improved documentation and enhanced operator/surgeon training and performance, which should reduce mistreatments, improve patient safety and reduce burden on healthcare system. To achieve our objective we have divided the work program into 5 R&D work packages running in a coordinated manner: 1. Requirement specification based on current OR workflows and future trends. 2. Design and development of Seekuence software 3. Modify OpenOR system and integrate it with Seekuence plug-in 4. Testing platform development for hospital validation 5. Preparation and performance of clinical trials In addition: 6. Dissemination and exploitation 7. Consortium management The plan is that the consortium at an early stage will establish a test/demo facility at OUS. This facility will be used in the specification and development phases to build a testing platform. The testing platform (system/equipment) will be moved to an OR for clinical trials. All development will be performed in such a way as to ensure CE-marking and market launching of the product within one year post project completion.
