Winter physiology of Arctic microalgae (RiS 10109)

Tildelt: kr 51 999

The aim of this project is to describe the physiological state of vegetative stages of microalgae during the Polar night. I will measure their photophysiology in darkness, and upon re-illumination in the laboratory to identify their potential to carry out photosynthetic primary production at that time of the year. This information is essential to estimate the impact of a changed Arctic light climate (as a consequence of sea ice reduction) on spring bloom induction.
