7th International Congress of Pain in Dementia Bergen 2015: Pain in Dementia - Future directions.

Tildelt: kr 0,10 mill.

Background: When dementia and pain concur, their impact on society multiplies and asks for evidence-based, translational and transnational solutions. Presently, pain is grossly undertreated in dementia. Other unanswered questions regard the underlying brain pathology, optimal pain treatment and care and the lack of validated pain assessment tools has so far prevented major progress. COST-Action TD 1005 is a multidisciplinary group of international researchers from 14 European countries, Israel and Australia, with focus on pain in dementia, palliative care, psychometric properties, laboratory pain research, clinical studies, and implementation (http://www.cost-td1005.net/index.phpid=2). Since 2011, it has been the goal to improve pain recognition and management and to develop an international agreed tool to assess pain in people with dementia. In 2014, our group applied for Marie Curie funding which is still an ongoing process. The COST-Action organizes a bi-annual conference to exchange information between clinicians and researchers. Active Cost members from the UiB, Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care (IGS), Center for Elderly ? and Nursing Home Medicine (SEFAS), were asked to organize the next international event. Congress committee: B. Husebø, assoc prof. IGS, leader of SEFAS, member of Management Committee and Chair of WP1 (Psychometrics and Algesimetry); Prof. Liv Inger Strand, Postdoc Elisabeth Flo, Ph.D, Reidun Sandvik, Ph.D candidate. Aim of the Conference is to reduce the fragmentation in European research and to strive for worldwide cooperation. Excellent speakers with high number of publications in peer-reviewed international scientific journals, and famous for their responsibility and leadership in large research projects, from US, Australia and European countries (attached preliminary program) will participate. This event is embedded in the strategy of UiB, Municipality of Bergen, and Research group of General Practice UiB.
