3rd NordicRAS Workshop on Recirculating Aquaculture Systems

The 3rd NordicRAS Workshop on Recirculating Aquaculture Systems will be held in Molde 30 September - 1 October 2015, with a field excursion on 2 October. The workshop is organised by the Nordic Network on Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (NordicRAS), the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Aqua), and Nofima. The organisers of the workshop aim to coordinate and strengthen research and development of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS). Recirculation technology and the principle of farming fish in closed systems has developed for decades, and systems have been optimized to a point where genuine commercialization has started with increasingly larger systems, e.g., for production of smolt are being constructed. Consistent with this development focus is slowly shifting from addressing mechanical / engineering related topics towards more integrated and complex issues such as water quality (chemical as well as microbial), optimization of fish health and welfare in RAS, and end-of-pipe treatment. The prospective of constructing, not only a farming system, but a complete unit that can handle both intake -and discharge water and sludge is gaining more and more attention as system size and commercialization increases. The workshop topics will be related to these aspects.
