International Musicological Society Conference in Stavanger 1-6 July 2016.

The International Musicological Society (IMS) was founded in 1927 in Basel, where it has its headquarters. IMS has a congress every fifth year and at the last congress in Rome 2012 it was decided that the intercongressual conference in 2016 to be held in Stavanger Norway. We expect 150-300 participants from all over the world to share their knowledge and late-breaking work in the wide area of musicological research. The theme is "Music as Art, Artefact and Fact. Musicology in the 21st century". In our Call for Papers we have a list of disciplines, though without restricting the possibilities for any other subject in musicology to be presented. The conference is organised by the University of Stavanger, and will be located at Bjergsted Music Park where UiS Department of Music and Dance, will be the prime venue and some activities will be in Stavanger Concert House. The program can be split into three categories: 1 Scientific program, 2 Concerts and Exhibitions, 3 Social programs. - Scientific program The main part of the scientific program will be the presentations from the keynote speakers and the paper/panel/poster-presentations of the delegates. The number of accepted abstracts will influence the number of parallel sessions. In IMS there are several (14) Study Groups that are invited to have their annual meeting in Stavanger during the conference. Some have already answered positively to our request, and some will make a decision later this year. - Concerts and Exhibitions Every day during the conference there will be lunch concerts in Stavanger Concert House (ViP-salen). During the conference we plan to have an exhibition from international publishers of music (books and scores). - Social program In addition to the traditional conference dinner, we will have a mingling time every evening in the canteen of the Department of Music and Dance. During the conference there will be excursions to museums and sightseeing spots in our district (including the Pulpit rock).
