In accordance with the aim of the challenge of SEAC, the main objective of the STEM-cells project is to develop sustainable local multistakeholder networks (STEM-Cells) that will provide activities to attract young people into careers within the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Each of the partner countries will set up a STEM cell to test and implement the model, evaluate the outcomes and impact in their local area and contribute case studies of interventions. In order to boost the interest of young people in STEM, a holistic effort is required that engages not just schools, but parents, employers, media and local community organisations. We intend to materialise this through the creation of one STEMcell multistakeholder and holistic model and toolbox. The model will be implemented in each of the partner countries. The toolbox will provide a combination of knowledge and information, suggesting activities for the STEM-cell members, but crucially will be adaptable to local context. We will build confidence among parents about STEM, improve skills, interest and engagement. Tackle stereotypes about what are appropriate career and educational choices for their children, break down gender and cultural norms, we will engage local STEM-experts who can act as role models as well as providing real life experiences of work in STEM industries. For those industries or professions which are not available in the local area, virtual role models and internships will be enabled, and we will build a sustainable multistakeholder local network to continue the STEM-cell in each participating area.
