Scaling up effective health interventions through results based financing

Performance based financing represents a new and radically different approach to the delivery of quality of health services in low and middle income countries. One of the main challenges of the health systems in these countries is that inexpensive and effective health interventions (diagnosis and treatment) do not reach the patients who need them. Traditional methods of financing, based on providing inputs to the health system, has not delivered the desired results. With performance-based financing, health workers and health facilities are rewarded based on their performance, the quality and quantity of the services they provide. This strategy can radically transform how health systems operate in low and middle-income countries and can have dramatic impact on health status of the population. This application is developed by a the best European research institutions in this field: Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp CMI London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine University of Edinburgh University of Heidelberg The participants know each other well from previous collaborations. We have not included the abroad institutions in the sections of "Partners". If documentation of collaboration is required, it will be provided.
