Software-Defined Network Workshop

Tildelt: kr 25 592

Internet has become a critical infrastructure for today's society as both businesses and daily life depend increasingly on information technologies and solutions to be connected. The demand for new services and business models is growing rapidly; however, traditional operating mechanisms and computing models cannot cope with the trend. Particularly, network infrastructure and services are complex and hard to manage. The reasons are various, including rudimentary interfaces and vertically integrated networking planes. The situation is more critical when network resources are off-premises. These resources have limited functionality, while offering less control. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) are two network architectures, which are introduced to address these challenges. Large ISPs, infrastructure providers, and careers are already investing on the benefits of these technologies. This workshop intends to explore the applications of these architectures to the data center, campus, and smart cities ICT infrastructure networks. Moreover, it facilitates not only a national, but also an international scientific and business collaboration on relevant topics, including network architecture frameworks, cloud and data-intensive computing models, and smart cities. The workshop aims to empower our previously established SDN consortium (UiS, Simula, UniK, IRIS, SINTEF ICT, UNINETT and Telenor), and foster Network research and innovation through national and international activities.
