From biomarkers to molecular epidemiology - skin cancer prevention by means of behaviour, supportive environments and early detection

Tildelt: kr 0,13 mill.

Skin cancer incidence continues to increase in most European countries and this increase is predicted to continue for many years. UV radiation is the main cause for skin cancers, and both total dose, intermittent and intense exposure contributes to the cancer risk. It is important for EUROSKIN that research and activities are directed both to primary and secondary prevention, as prevention is far more cost efficient than treatment. In recent years, research are growing within search for biomarkers, in order to more specifically target the risk factors, risk groups and thereby prevention activities. The workshop aims to present the recent findings in this field. Thereafter, we aim to invite speakers to cover status on epidemiology and how screening can be an efficient tool to reduce melanoma mortality. Previous prevention strategies have focused on informing people about risk situations and how to reduce their risk by changing their sun habits. In recent years, prevention work has focused on how to include supportive environments to provide natural sun protection, such as shaded areas in schools and parks. An important topic is whether these strategies and actions are efficient. EUROSKIN aims to work closely with its national, European and global Partners in Prevention. Harmonization of regulations, guidelines and information are essential regarding sun exposure, as well as sunbed exposure. EUROSKIN aims to host a workshop to update the community of the recent knowledge, and this year's workshop will be combined with the annual scientific meeting of NOFFOF, due to the common interest within photobiology and photomedicine and cancer prevention. All togheter, we expect 50 participants, including 20 invited speakers. The main Euroskin activities will be on Thursday 3 November 2016, whereas combined with NOFFOF activities on 4 November. Invited speakers and organizers will come together on 2 November.
