PAHs, or polyaromatic hyrdocarbon, are long known for their carinogenic Properties. The carcinogenic properties of these compounds is associated with specific structure elements, and the ultimate carcinogenic compounds are the epoxydiols which are formed by metabolism of the parent PAH-compounds.
PAHs will always be around, as they are the primary byproducts when organic matter is burned. PAHs are found in petroleum, exhaust from cars, in cigaret smode, oin burned or fries Food etc. There are strict control of PAHs in food, drinking water and in cometics.
PAHs are readily metabolized, and to analysis PAH exposure one need to analyze for metabolites.
The analysis of the spcific compounds of high potency is therefore important and the aim of this projectReference materials and internal standards for the analysis and the analytical protocols ill be developped.
This Projects will aim to simpify this analysis and to develop kits that can be used for easy Control of PAH-exposure.
