AFC Sentinel System - Precision based biomass management for aquaculture

Tildelt: kr 99 999

The vision is to have a real-time sensing microcapsule platform as a data collection tool where various components (sensors, transducers, energy source, communication) are integrated in a modular design for easier interchange. The capsule platform and a service for information access represents the core business model for AFC Analytics. The specific goal is to develop a real-time sensing microcapsule using innovative integrated microsensors for fish biometric data transmitted via a hydroacoustic transducer to a receiver mounted in a fish-pen (a floating cage used for fish farming). The microcapsule is injected in the fish? hypaxial musculature with a implanter device used for subcutaneous tags in animals. The sensors will detect, collect and transmit, e.g. heart rate, motion, orientation and hydrostatic pressure at predetermined intervals. This project will go beyond todays state-of-the-art sensor & hydro acoustic transmission technology. AFC Analytics, Rise ACREO, ReVibe Energy, NNFC, and JNJ are leading partners in their fields allowing for synergetic results. Besides the microcapsule demo with new microsensors and hydro acoustic communication, the project will generate new IP for the Norwegian, Swedish and Korean partners on: - Novel algorithm for motion & size measurement (patent pending); will be owned by AFC Analytics (drawings, test result and possible patent). - Novel capsule design & manufacturing; will be owned by subcontractor Celoplas (drawings, prototypes). - Battery chemistry & manufacturing; will be owned by JNJ Batteries (drawings, tests, and possible patent). - Energy harvesting for battery life-time extension / replacement; will be owned by RISE Acreo & Revibe Energy (design, tests, prototype and possible a patent). - Hydroacoustic MEMS; will be owned by NNFC (drawings, tests, prototypes and possible a patent). - Novel MEMS inertial and energy harvesting sensors; will be owned by ACREO (drawings, tests, prototypes and possible patent).
