Arrangement of 4th Annual International workshop on Soft and Complex Matter, at Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (DNVA), Drammensvegen 78, Oslo, Norway, October 29-30, 2017.The 4th Annual International workshop on Soft and Complex Matter is preceded by three workshops in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Soft and Complex Matter is a very active field of research with several large international conferences in the field each year. Self-assembly from nanoparticles, into nano-meso structures are essential themes in this area of research, and this is the main topic also of our 2017 event. In this particular case, or 2017 workshop is closely related to two running Nano2021 projects "Graphene-NanoClay Systems", project number 250619, and the M-Era.Net project "Fabricating cellulose nanocomposites for structural coloration" with project number 272919. The theme of the 2017 workshop is self-assembly in particular self-assembly of structures for control of functionalities such as photonic properties, wetting properties, permeability (gas barrier) properties, medical drug delivery properties, nanoscale control of CO2 and methane capture properties etc. Several prestigious lecturers from several countries in Europe (for example Harvard Univ., Univ. Cambridge, Univ. Oxford, Inst. Curie and others) have been invited to the 2016 event. Several of the participants have submitted and plan to submit joint applications to Horizon2020 program calls, in particular, joint applications to M-Era.Net, FET-OPEN, and MARIE SKODOWSKA-CURIE INNOVATIVE TRAINING NETWORKS.
