WEBMEET - Food web ecology and ecological modelling for marine management and governance, a multi project workshop

Tildelt: kr 0,15 mill.

To strengthen the contribution from five major projects in the Barents Sea on food web ecology and ecosystem modelling relevant for marine ecosystem-based management, a workshop will be held with participants from these projects and invited key international scholars in mid-November 2017. The main themes of the workshop will be methods for empirical characterisation of food webs, analyses of food web structure, and ecological modelling based on food web information. Applications for ecosystem-based management will be addressed. Using the Barents Sea as a case, and drawing on combined working experience among the participants from marine areas across Australia, USA and the wider Europe, conclusions and lessons learned will be communicated to a wide research community through two papers, one dealing with recent developments and challenges in empirical studies of food webs, the other giving a critical evaluating the applications of food web ecology and modelling for ecosystem-based management.
