Influence of wastewater on the bacterioplankton community and its characteristics in Adventfjorden, Svalbard, RIS-ID: 10924

I plan to conduct the sampling of the water and sediments from wastewater related and non-related sampling sites in Longyearbyen and Adventfjorden. Two fieldwork campaigns will take place: in low (March/April) and high (July/August) tourist season. I will perform in situ physicochemical analyses, fix the samples for the microscopic observations and extract the total environmental DNA. Microscopic observations will be carried out at Gdansk University of Technology after the fieldwork. The project will help to gather the data necessary to my PhD dissertation about the wastewater influence on the community composition of the waters of the receiver, as well as the survival of the antibiotic resistant bacteria in the environment.
