5G Converged Networking for Enhanced Mobile Broadband and Internet of Vehicles

Tildelt: kr 59 999

5G-Convergence takes important steps for progressing the synergy between car industry and telecom industry. Both the car industry (NEVS, Toyota Europe, Denso) and the telecom industry (Telenor, Intracom) are sufficient present. With input from the industrial partners, the boundary conditions with regard to technologies development are taken into account in the project, both for trials and researches. Global interoperability in two regions (EU and China) is targeted, via for example unified trial specifications, unified trial frequency bands (3.5 GHz and 5.9 GHz) and data sharing. One concrete example is that a commonly identified application/service can be offered to both European and Chinese vehicles. Another examples is that vehicles made in European can be used in China enjoying the same services as the vehicles made in China, and vice versa. Definitive interoperability cases will be decided together with the Chinese twin project, as one of the first steps of the project. The project contributes to the overall strategy and roadmaps of 5G PPP. The project partners are aware of the important 5G PPP visions, white papers, working groups and projects, relevant to the project. In particular, the 5G PPP whitepapers “5G Automotive Vision” and “View on 5G Architecture” will be important reference for the project, for the definition of use cases and design of network architectures. The project commits to participate in program-level activities of 5G PPP, and the European 5G trial roadmaps. The project will focus on most important use-cases and on handling their respective requirements, as well as on the associated technical challenges for the provision of high user throughput (for eMBB) and high-reliable low-latency (for V2X) communication at potentially high mobility (e.g. vehicles on highway).
