Securing critical infrastructures

Tildelt: kr 0,40 mill.

In digital societies the communication infrastructure provides connectivity which is crucial for the operation and management of other critical infrastructures such as Energy, Water, Health services, Financial services, Transport, etc. Consequently, any communication disruption will cause severe problems for the society. To prevent or at least minimize these communication service disruptions. SecurInfra - Securing critical infrastructures will design, implement, validate and prototype • a robust, resilient and secure communication infrastructure architecture solution • which includes prevention, detection, response and mitigation against both hazards and physical and/or cyber attacks • which interacts and improves the protection of two other critical infrastructures namely, energy and postal infrastructure. To achieve its objectives SecureInfra promotes the concept of “the communication infrastructure as a cyber physical system (CPS)” and adopts the CPS methodologies. The communication cyber physical system will be modelled as a system with dual components: a cyber component consisting of network functions realizing the communication system and a physical component consisting of location, facilities, building, surveillance, access control system, etc. CPS modelling will also apply for both the energy and postal infrastructures and their connections with the communication infrastructure will studied, defined and formalized. All the detection, response and mitigation functions developped in SecureInfra will encompass the dual components, cyber and physical. The project adopts and adapts state-of-the-art technologies such as Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Software Defined Monitoring, SIEM, Machine learning, etc. to build functions that improve the resilience of the communication infrastructure.
