1th International Workshop on Mechanochemistry of Metal Hydrides

Tildelt: kr 75 999

Mechanochemical synthesis and processing of materials (e. g. mechanical milling, reactive milling, cryomilling, severe plastic deformation) are non-equilibrium techniques that have been successfully applied to a great variety of solids, including those for the energy conversion and storage. During the last decade, this method demonstrated its effectiveness in forming novel metal hydrides and improving their thermodynamic and kinetic properties. However, there is no dedicated forum that would exclusively target the use of mechanochemistry for the improvement of storage materials. Thus, to partly fill this gap and respond to expectations of the international and national scientific communities, we propose the creation of a new meeting that would focus entirely on the mechanochemistry of metal hydrides. The WMMH event will gather key specialists in a field of mechanochemical techniques and metal hydrides. We expect that the workshop will become an international exchange platform, where topics on chemistry and physics of mechanochemical techniques, in a broad context of energy storage materials, will be shared and discussed. The objectives of the proposed event are in line with NANO2021 strategy to "promote the responsible development of nanotechnology that can contribute significantly to industrial and commercial development and will be of relevance and benefit to society". In particular, the workshop target the thematic priority area 1 of NANO2021 and aim at building a strong international community interested in the deep understanding of the nano-scale phenomena during mechanochemistry of metal hydrides, and their possible scaling up. The Workshop WMMH is organized by the Department of Technology Systems at the University of Oslo. The event will be held from the 30th of May to 1st of June 2018 in Oslo/Kjeller, Norway. Prof. Sabrina Sartori will be the chairwoman of the event with prof. Jacques Huot (Canada) as the co-chair .
