The 13th IEEE International Symposium of Medical Information and Communication Technologies

Den 13. IEEE Internasjonale Symposium om Medisinsk Informasjons- og Kommunikasjonsteknologi (ISMICT 2019) ble arrangert i Oslo, 8.-10. mai, 2019. Det 3-dagers programmet var spekket med flotte aktiviteter som inkluderte 4 prestisjetunge hoved talere fra forskjellige felt og 4 inviterte taler om noen av de mest attraktive temaene. Det ble totalt 57 artikler presentert over 4 spesielle økter, 6 generelle økter og en plakat økt. I tillegg ble det arrangert to panelmøter der aktuelle spørsmål, som nytt regelverk og ledelse på komplekse områder, ble diskutert. Mens europeiske forskere dannet flertallet, ble det også gitt betydelige innspill fra amerikanere og asiatere som understreket det internasjonale samarbeidet til det unike samfunnet. Mer enn 70 frivillige vitenskapelige korrekturer støttet ISMICT 2019 for å sikre bidrag av høy kvalitet. Med 87 deltakere fra hele verden som møtte temaer som spenner fra grunnleggende forskningsideer til praktiske applikasjoner og fremtidige forskningsanvisninger, viste ISMICT 2019 seg til å være en stor suksess. ISMICT 2019 var vert for 4 spesielle økter. Den spesielle økten for Trådløst Kroppsnettverk trakk til seg mange artikler, det gjorde også den spesielle økten om Kunstig Intelligens i Medisin. I tillegg til alle muligheter i en stadig mer koblet verden, må risikoer vurderes og unngås. Den spesielle sesjonen om Cybersikkerhet in Helsevesen hadde som mål å øke alles bevissthet i denne forbindelse. Til slutt plukket den spesielle økten om Hjerteovervåking ved bruk av Video-plethysmografi opp et interessant aspekt innen medisinsk diagnostikk. De fremmøtte ble ønsket velkommen av ordføreren i Oslo i hovedmottakelsen, som fant sted i Rådhuset i Oslo 9. mai. Senere samme kveld ble banketten holdt i en historisk bygning i hjertet av Oslo, hvor en gourmetmiddag ble servert, priser ble gitt, og samarbeid ble oppmuntret. ISMICT 2019 ble sponset av IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, Norway Health Tech, Norges forskningsråd og Oslo Universitetssykehus. I tillegg har 16 doktorgrad studenter finansiert av H2020-MSCA: ITN Wireless In-Body Environment (WiBEC) -prosjektet bidratt til organisering av konferansen. I sin vurdering av ISMICT 2019 sa lederen for ISMICT styringsgruppe, Professor Ryuji Kohno: ?Dette er helt klart en av de mest vellykkede utgavene av ISMICT?.

The 13th IEEE International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology successfully established a forum to present new research and development results, exchange ideas, discuss practices, and share experiences among Technology and Medicine sides, including healthcare, wellness, clinical therapy, and surgery, as well as ICT, mechanical, and biomedical engineering. Moreover, activities of standard, regulation and business for medical ICT devices, systems and services were promoted by national and international government and industry. The technical program featured among others Wireless body area sensor networks, E-Health systems and electronic medical records, Medical devices regulatory science, Medical imaging and patient diagnostic systems, Privacy and security issues, and Medical data analytics. It attracted ca. 90 participants and accepted 57 papers, which were published in the IEEE Xplore. The review process was according to the IEEE regulations.

ISMICT 2019 conference will continue the tradition of being the premier forum for the presentation of results on cutting-edge research in medical information and communication technology (ICT). The mission of the conference is to bring professionals from academia and industry who combine ICT to develop novel diagnostics, treatment and monitoring regardless whether the person is at home or hospital. This means the technological solutions are for health and care sector which is desperately looking for cost-effective, high-performance systems. The conference provides professionals to share novel basic research ideas as well as experimental applications in addition to identifying new directions for future research and development. ISMICT 2019 will be held in Oslo from 6th to 8th May 2019 and will also offer an exciting social program. Authors will be invited to submit full papers of up to 6 pages. Accepted papers will be included in the IEEE Xplore. The review process is according to the IEEE regulations, where we aim to accept 30-35% of the submitted papers and aim to have a minimum 60 papers. Authors of accepted papers can correct minor typos in the final camera-ready version. The number of participants is estimated to be approximately 120-140, including students and one-day registrations based on previous symposia. The Oslo University Hospital can handle up to a maximum of about 500 persons.
