International Research Conference "Multilingual Childhoods: education, policy and practice"

Tildelt: kr 16 718

Given the recent global mobility trends, more and more children from birth to six years grow up in multilingual environments, and attend early years services in the language different from their home environment. At the same time, there is an international trend in introducing a foreign language in the early childhood (Murphy 2016). There is a need to strengthen research in the field of early multilingualism in educational contexts, in order to provide families, practitioners and other people working with multilingual children in the early years, with a sound research based that could strengthen the pedagogical work with these children and create good opportunities for their multilingual development. The conference is an important network arena for one of the special interest groups, Multilingual Childhoods, in the European Early Childhood Education and Care Association (EECERA), which was established in 2015, and is an important meeting point for researchers from the international network Research in Early Years Language Learning (REYLL), which was established in 2014. Conferences are organized every second year, the previous conferences were held in Dublin in 2017, and in Rome in 2015. The conference will be organized in Hamar, 15-16th May 2019, in cooperation between Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences and Oslo Metropolitan University. The conference programme will include papers presentations and thematic symposia, three keynote speakers (one from Norway, one from other Scandinavian countries, and one international) will give plenary lectures. We expect that the conference will gather around 80 researchers from all over the world, who will present and discuss their recent research. Abstracts for all presentations will be published on the conference website, and up to ten selected papers presented of the conference are planned to be published in a special issue of EECERA journal (EECERAJ).
