Travel support to participate in India-EU-Norway Polar days at NCPOR in Goa, India 19-20 November 2018.

Since the establishment of the Nansen Environmental Research Centre – India (NERCI) in 1999 in Kochi, Kerala, India the Nansen Center in Bergen have coordinated many Indo-Norwegian research projects funded by the Research Council of Norway and various EC FP-programs. NERCI was the first ever Indian institution to coordinate an EC FP-7 project in India – the Indo-MareClim: Indo-European Research Facilities for Studies on Marine Ecosystem and Climate in India. The NORKLIMA project Decadal to multi-decadal variability in the Indian Monsoon Rainfall (IMR) and teleconnection with Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) was recently completed with significant scientific and PhD contributions from Norway and India. The current INTPART project Arctic cooperation between Norway, Russia, India, China and US in satellite Earth observation Research and Education (ARCONOR), includes three PhD students in India, China and who are allocated to complementary research activities. ARCONOR presently organized a winter research school THE ARCTIC OCEAN: ATMOSPHERE, ICE AND OCEAN INTERACTIONS – IMPLICATIONS FOR FUTURE CLIMATE AND HUMAN ACTIVITIES (IAWS-2018) for PhD and Post-doc candidates from India (20) and other countries (9) at NCPOR in Goa. Research results from these two Indo-Norwegian cooperative projects will be presented at the Polar days in Goa. Ongoing project proposal developments toward the 'Horizon 2020' Arctic Call: The changing cryosphere: Uncertainties, risks and opportunities call (LC-CLA-07-2019) due 19th February 2019 will also be presented for possible involvement of partners from Indian institutions. If time permits also the H2020 INTAROS: Integrated Arctic Observing System coordinated by Professor Stein Sandven at NERSC will be presented and opened for institutional cooperation from India. NCPOR are already invited to participate in INTAROS.
