The members of Oisann Engineering will submit an application for EIC-SMEInst-2018-2020: Phase 1 SME Instrument call in Horizon 2020 from the European Commission. The abstract for our SME Phase 1 Project is the following: In 2015 the World Economic Forum identified water crisis as the top global risk in terms of impact. Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination is a proven method to mitigate the water crisis; desalination is forecasted to be a USD $26.81bn industry in 2025. Traditional RO desalination uses a lot of energy and pollutes highly toxic brine that harms sea life. Oisann Engineering has created a patented (pending) subsea RO desalination system (Waterfountain) that uses up to 50% less energy without producing saline brine. Waterfountain can be relocated and removed at end of life, leaving virtually no environmental impact. Waterfountain is located offshore requiring only minimal on-land footprint. In 2016 a pilot prototype was successfully tested and confirmed by SINTEF, the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia. A business plan and market survey have been developed. The Phase 1 feasibility study is to create a technical and financial plan for the construction of a small, yet scalable and operational Waterfountain for research and marketing (demonstration Unit). In Phase 2 we will construct this unit and complete our identified research topics and demonstrate Waterfountain technology to the market. The goal of Phase 2 is to fulfill TRL 6 and prepare for the construction of a full-scale, fully operational systemic test unit. After the systemic prototype is proven successful in an operational environment, Oisann Engineering will pursue a technology licensing business model. By 2041 Waterfountains globally will produce 290 000 m³ of potable water per day. The cost to produce this water will be approximately €121 800 less per day than traditional RO desalination.
