PIEZO - Plug-In Electric Zero-emission Offshore-ship

Alternativ tittel: Utslippsfritt ladbart offshorefartøy

Tildelt: kr 6,2 mill.

Prosjektnummer:

Prosjektperiode:

2020 - 2023

Some important outcomes: - Finding efficient measures to secure optimal energy efficiency and minimum environmental footprint for coming new-builds. - Insight in PSV operations and possibility for emission free operations - Gaining the necessary knowledge to tender for the next generation offshore services and securing the companies environmental goals The results of the project might be a crucial catalysator for substatial changes in offshore service logistics. By prooving the fesability of fully-electric PSV´s and offshore charging, a new market may bloom. This to the benefit of the society, environmentally but also economically for the sectors involved.

One of the great challenges facing the petroleum and maritime industries today is climate change. To address this problem the Norwegian petroleum industry association aims to achieve the following goals by 2030; - Reducing measures equivalent to 2.5million tonnes of C02 per year - Using low or zero-emission technology for marine operations performed by the offshore fleet This project seeks to develop sustainable solutions that can assist Norwegian industry meet these goals. Our vision is for a fleet of Plugin Electric PSV’s sailing emissions free and charging offshore. By taking advantage of parallel developments in electrification of offshore installations, offshore wind farms and battery technology our proposal could result in a large step towards an emission free offshore fleet. If just one quarter of Norway’s PSV fleet adopted our concept, C02 emissions could be reduced by 300,000 tonnes annually, once the offshore infrastructure is in place. The potential of the developed technology may multiply several times as it can be transferred to other segments in ocean-going vessels in future. Electrification of Norway’s offshore fleet could be the start of a revolution for short-sea shipping worldwide. The planned innovation involves; - Development of a plug-in electric PSV design using primarilybatteries, for use on short-medium range routes. - Solutions to the technical and logistical challenges of re-charging ships offshore - Applying big data methods to improve overall energy efficiency throughout the ship - Development of smarter energy management systems
