CIR Network

Forskningsgruppen Comparative Institutions and Regimes (CIR) er et internasjonalt ledende forskningsmiljø som forsker på ulike politiske institusjoner og regimer, og deres årsaker og virkninger. CIR holder til ved Institutt for statsvitenskap (ISV), Universitetet i Oslo (UiO). Målet med dette prosjektet er å styrke CIR gruppen og dens forskning ytterligere ved hjelp av forskjellige nettverksaktiviteter, blant annet ulike seminarer og workshops, og derved ytterligere heve kreativiteten og kvaliteten i gruppens forskning. Mer spesifikt vil prosjektet bidra til overføring av kunnskap og ferdigheter (f.eks. metodiske ferdigheter) fra andre ledende internasjonale forskere til CIR-forskere. Prosjektet vil også legge til rette for fremtidig samarbeid om bestemte artikler og forskningsprosjekter mellom CIR-forskere og andre forskere. Prosjektet vil også forbedre gruppens formidlingsarbeid rettet mot ulike miljøer, nasjonalt og internasjonalt. Ved å finansiere et europeisk Ph.d.-kurs av høy kvalitet, vil prosjektet også gjøre at CIR kan bidra til å bygge unge forskeres karrierer samt øke sjansene for fremtidig rekruttering av ledende internasjonale forskningstalenter, fra Norge og utlandet, til CIR.

The overarching goal of this application for network-related activities is to further strengthen the creativity and quality of the research from the Comparative Institutions and Regimes (CIR) research group. The activities will allow existing CIR researchers to maintain and develop further their extensive networks and collaboration with leading international researchers on political institutions and regimes. The activities, especially a high-quality European Phd course, will also allow us to expand CIR networks and collaboration with other researchers -- especially promising early career researchers and research talents. What we hope to achieve from these networking activities – which all feed in to the main goal of enhancing research quality – are the following sub-goals: First, we hope to increase the transmission of knowledge and skills (e.g., in terms of cutting-edge methodological skills) from leading international researchers to CIR researchers. Second, we aim to facilitate future collaboration on particular papers and research projects between CIR researchers and leading international researchers. Third, we will enhance the education of Phd students in our field. Finally, these networking activities will increase the chances of future recruitment of leading international researchers and top early-career research talents, from Norway and abroad, to CIR. CIR was among the research groups evaluated in SAMEVAL, netting a top score of 5. Presently, this internationally leading research group in the study of institutions and regimes counts 14 researchers. The group is soon to be expanded with 6 Postdocs and 1 PhD student being hired this year on project-related positions for 1 ERC CoG grant and 3 NFR FRIPRO grants. The group’s researchers are all located at the Department of Political Science (ISV), at the University of Oslo (UiO). The research group leader is Prof. Carl Henrik Knutsen, who is also the PI of this network application.
