Rethinking Rights and Resources for the Green Transformation

Alternativ tittel: Rethinking Rights and Resources for the Green Transformation

Tildelt: kr 1,6 mill.

The Rights, Accountability and Power in Development (RAPID) scientific group is one of four research clusters at the Department of International Environment and Development Studies at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). The RAPID cluster operates as important and active arena for academic discussion, critique and development of new research, teaching and publications. With this application we seek support for a set of activities aimed at further strengthening and academic renewal of the research cluster. We are particularly interested in addressing recommendations we received from the SAMEVAL evaluation: to heighten our international profile, publication level, and to diversify our research networks in the Global North. With this aim, our application places an emphasis on a set of interlinked activities: a PhD course; research workshops linked to the course; research stays abroad, and a major book launch. RAPID will organize a recurrent PhD course that will explore the overarching theme Rethinking Rights and Resources for Green Transformation. The course will have three iterations over three years and offer PhD candidates and faculty space to further develop competence on changing understandings of rights, resource politics and governance, and environmental justice in a global context of green transition. The workshops will make further use of the presence of external lecturers invited to take part in the course and help to diversify our academic links to appropriate expertise and research environments. Short research stays at renowned institutions and research groups in Europe and North America will further expand and strengthen the research networks of cluster members and foster positive long-term feedback and research connections for the cluster. The launch of a major edited book, and several other individual works, will showcase recent innovations in our research and education in the field of global environment and development studies.
