When managing mild to severe heart failure (HF) patients, cardiologists prescribe cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT), consisting of implantation of a pacemaker and leads with electrodes. CRT is a highly effective treatment of the dyssynchronised failing heart. However > 20 years after its introduction, approx. 25% of patients show no response to CRT and 25% get worse after CRT implantation. Pacertool AS, with 3 applied patents, is developing an innovative hardware and software system that, based on implantable sensors and HF patient’s biofeedback, can guide in real-time the placement of lead electrodes of a pacemaker improving CRT response rate with identification of responders to CRT and thereby avoid uneeded and potential deteriementnal implantations in patients who will not experience any benefits from therapy, protecting these patients to get even worse (or die) from this implantation procedure and avoiding implantation needless costs. With Pacertool’s solution, cardiologists will have at their disposal precise information for individualised CRT implantation. The main barriers for Pacertool AS going forward are related to prevailing technical and market-related challenges. This project will enable performing the final maturation of the hardware and software, perform clinical trials to reach the CE and Class IIa certification and FDA approval and prepare documentation for reimbursement schemes in USA + DK+Germany, all leading to market launch in Europe and US. The EIC Accelerator programme provides a unique opportunity for us to showcase the potential of our innovation and gain market intelligence. The completion of the project objectives is important for ensuring successful market entrance and commercialisation of our innovative system to improve Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy procedure and outcomes.
