SURE SUstainable Real Estae in a risk and life cycle perspective

Tildelt: kr 0,25 mill.

The digital and sustainable transformation of the real estate industry, in collaboration with the insurance industry, will generate new knowledge by breaking through organizational and technological silos. The SURE project will contribute to develop new B2B business models, based on data-as-an-asset concept. For the insurance sector, this means that the fundamentals of competition will be revolutionized by investigating the business model "pay-as-you-go". For the real estate sector, this means that sustainability will represent the core of the innovation strategy, used as an aspect of business practice designed to create long-term value. At a societal level, the SURE project will benefit society by providing a high-quality, affordable, durable and safe built environment with a reduced environmental impact.

Both the insurance industry and the real estate industry should collaborate in order to develop and implement new solutions, value chains and business models addressing the data-driven sustainability of the built environment. Up to now only some few fragmented initiatives were pursued, none of them funded by the Research Council of Norway. SINTEF intends to inform the main Norwegian actors from both industries about the tremendous potential for sustainable value creation, and to entice a selection of relevant actors to join forces into applying for a large research project under the "Collaborative Project" call from the Research Council of Norway with a deadline the 18th of November. Relevant stakeholders from the Insurance sector include Finance Norway (already involved in the SFI Klima2050 research project dealing with climate risk mitigation), Fremtind (previous partner in the non-funded SFI DigIn proposal), Gjensidige, If Forsikring, Storebrand, and others. Relevant stakeholders from the Real Estate sector include private actors such as DNB Eiendom, OBOS, Entra, Aspelin Ramm, Mustad Eiendom, etc, and public actors such as Statsbygg and the real estate departments from the largest Norwegian municipalities. Planned activities include a series of one-to-one meetings with each stakeholder to present the context and the funding opportunities, and to identify the research needs. Two common workshops will be organized in September-October to discuss and to draft the outline of a common application to the Collaborative Project call.
