Independence Gear AS has developed Spectum, a connected assistive device to enable people with reduced mobility to perform a complete skin inspection without assistance, monitoring several skin parameters and the change of wounds over time by means of different sensors and cameras for measuring, e.g., the area and volume of a wound and to assess if a redness in the skin indicates an initial pressure ulcer (PU). The device is wirelessly connected to a cloud-based app that collects information about the skin condition and generates actionable health alerts and notifications in real-time to the end-users and healthcare professionals, if any critical area in the skin is found. Independence Gear AS will lead the project, which will focus on the market launch and commercialisation of our technology. The main barriers for Independence Gear As going forward are related to acceptance by end-users and healthcare professionals. This project will enable: 1) optimisation of Spectum; 2) documentation of regulatory and technical aspects; 3) clinical demonstrations in relevant markets; 4) establishing agreements with key stakeholders for broad market roll out of the product. The EIC Accelerator program provides a unique opportunity for Independence Gear to showcase the potential of its technology and gain market intelligence that will ultimately lead to acceptance by end-users. The completion of the project objectives is important for ensuring a successful entrance to the market and commercialisation of our innovative assistive device.
