NPWT is a well-documented and proven method for significantly accelerating the healing of chronic and infected wounds. It has also proven useful in the closure of surgical wounds and many more applications have been discovered since its inception in the 1990s. It works by sealing a wound with an airtight dressing and applying suction from an external pump connected via a tube. This accelerates healing by several mechanisms including wound contraction with diminished tensile forces, stabilisation of the wound environment, decreased oedema and improved removal of fluid from the wound, and increased blood and lymphatic flow. Despite its benefits and expanding range of applications NPWT, is still regarded as a niche treatment, limited to surgical clinics in industrialised countries. It is widely believed that cost and complexity of use have impeded wider adoption. Aurora Tech's breakthrough lies in overcoming these challenges to the benefit of patients, health care personnel and hospitals. Specifically, EasyVac has been designed to be simple to manufacture, decreasing cost significantly and making it affordable for hospitals and clinics in low and middle income countries. The objective of the main project is to develop EasyVac and to avail the applicant to enter this market and capitalise on this business opportunity. To fulfil this goal, the applicant will finalise the manufacturing of the device, develop and execute a clinical study, and provide evidence-based clinical data for stakeholders’ acceptance of the use of EasyVac. In addition, the applicant will perform market intelligence analysis and finalise a business and commercialisation plan to facilitate securing agreements with licensing/distribution partners.
