Investigation of the spatio-temporal variability of winds in Isfjorden, RiS 11609

Vertical wind profiles will be collected utilizing a light detection and ranging (LIDAR) instrument. The LIDAR will be mounted onboard different research and commercial vessels sailing in Isfjorden. This will allow to investigate the temporal and spatial variability of winds within the marine boundary layer of the fjord and all its side arms with a high resolution. The measurements will in that way complement model data like e.g. the Copernicus Arctic Regional Reanalysis (CARRA), which lack detailed information on small-scale features introduced to the atmospheric state by the highly complex topography surrounding the fjord.
