NABLA infrastruktur er "Norwegian Advanced Battery Laboratory" og vil sørge for åpen tilgang til topp-moderne batteriforskningsfasiliteter for både forsknings- og industripartnere. Hovedmålet til NABLA er å øke kompetanse og tilby trening for fremtidige forskere gjennom utvikling av infrastrukturen, og samtidig sørge for internasjonal synlighet i batteriteknologisegmentet. Infrastrukturen vil bestå av flere utstyrsenheter hos de seks større forskningspartnerene innenfor batteri FoU; IFE, SINTEF, NTNU, UiO, UiA og FFI. NABLA vil koble aktivitetene til vertspartnerne og forsterke samarbeidet. NABLA vil minske gapet mellom dagens laboratorieinfrastruktur og det nødvendige nivået som etterspørres av industripartnere og internasjonale samarbeidspartnere. Infrastrukturen vil bli organisert i fire teknologiområder; Kjemi, Validering, Produksjon og Implementering og vil derfor være relevant for hele verdikjeden innenfor batteriteknologi. NABLA vil inkludere følgende utstyrsenheter: - avansert grenseflatekarakterisering (NTNU) - laboratorie for alternative kjemier (NTNU) - operando materialkarakterisering (UiO) - valideringscellelinje (IFE) - produksjonscellelinje (SINTEF) - høyspenningslaboratorie (SINTEF) - automatisk demontering av batteri (UiA) - degraderingsstudier (UiA)

The primary goal for NABLA is to provide a national infrastructure dedicated to the battery research and development to Norwegian research and industrial organization. NABLA covers research needs and interests of the battery field and is built upon expertise of six major Norwegian research institutions within battery research: IFE, FFI, NTNU, SINTEF, UiA and UiO. NABLA will be coordinated by IFE, while the infrastructure will be established at the six locations of partners. To respond the national needs, scientific priorities and general trends in the field NABLA is structured into four technology areas (TA): 1. Chemistry (focus on material development, operando characterization of battery materials, interphase characterisation in batteries, and alternative battery chemistries - beyond Li-ion batteries). 2. Validation (focus on reproducible, yet flexible validation of materials in close-to-industrial conditions, including the possibilities to fabricate cells of alternative chemistries). 3. Manufacturing (focus on improvements in cell manufacturing and materials processing, new designs for batteries). 4. Implementation (focus on life-time testing, safety, special conditions, such as high voltage, second life and automated disassembly for recycling). To ensure proper communication of the users with NABLA, to communicate and disseminate the result NABLA will establish a common web-portal, to direct the prospective users to the instrumentation of interest. By establishing NABLA, Norwegian battery R&D will obtain a highly desired laboratory that guarantees a major advancement for R&D in a highly accelerating field. This will enable the Norwegian research community to deliver specialists, expertise and technology to the expanding area of energy storage in Norway including material producers, cell manufacturers, and end-users. The state-of-the-art NABLA capabilities will increase the international visibility of Norwegian industry and research organizations.
