Geografi:

This project aims to investigate the presence and distribution of rock fracturing in surface outcrop of the reservoir formations of the Longyearbyen CO2 Lab. By studying the fracturing directly in this rock we will gain insight into two key scientific questions: 1) How are the tectonic processes represented in rock fracturing of the Svalbard area? 2) How can this knowledge be used to develop our understanding of fracturing in the subsurface, and implications for safe storage of CO2 at the Longyearbyen site? Additionally this project will introduce a new early career researcher to the Arctic, while supporting an existing PhD student with specialist knowledge on fracture modelling.
