SustainPack- sustainable packaging in a circular economy

The SustainPack project goal is to transform the food packaging value chain to a circular and more sustainable value chain, and hence development of a greener sector and new businesses. In order to achieve thisthiwe will work on development of well-functioning markets for recycled and reuse of food packaging materials, reduction of use of plastic for food packaging, increasing the use of cellulose based materials for food packaging, increase the % of reuse of plastic materials and increase the amount of renewable, recycled and reused plastic materials for food packaging. Within each area there will be focus on commercialization and business creation. The consortium will consist of partners from the whole value chain including research organizations with expertise in the different areas. Circular Packaging Cluster has a central role in the project and is the only complete collaboration arena in Norway representing a near-complete value chain for packaging. CPC has 44 members and in addition 17 other partners.There is a need for transforming the food packaging value chain to a circular and more sustainable value chain. The main project will include five thematic priorities, across the value chain: Design for sustainability; Packaging materials; Food packaging systems; Packaging waste management and sorting; and Recycling and reuse. Within each area there will be focus on commercialization and business creation.
