Digital Twins for Wind Energy

Tildelt: kr 0,19 mill.

The most ambitious scenario defined by the European Commission suggests 450 GW offshore wind capacity in Europe by 2050 . Meeting this potential represents a huge market opportunity to grow Norway's wind power industry. To be successful, however, cost-competitive solutions must be developed. DTforWE will address this challenge through research on areas in which Norwegian industry has a strong potential to supply technology and services to the international market. Our overall research approach for developing methodologies and knowledge is to form interdisciplinary teams that balance technology push and domain specific application pull. In particular, we consider the combined use of physics-based and data-driven models, hereafter denoted as hybrid analysis and modelling (HAM), as a science and engineering disruptor that can be exploited to achieve the goals of developing significant improved DTs for WE. The DT framework can be utilized for holistic optimization throughout the design, installation, operation, and decommissioning phases. The DT framework will facilitate rapid exploitable knowledge exchange between Research and Innovations with Design and Operations (RIDO) as the DT link them together real-time. The DT framework developed can also be utilized to assess sustainability. The pre-project is meant to form the basis for an application for a larger project and will help to align different interests and priorities among key industrial players and the research environment, form the basis for a consortium agreement, and develop goals and plans.
