DRYADS - A Holistic Fire Management Ecosystem for Prevention, Detection and Restoration of Environmental Disasters

Tildelt: kr 0,60 mill.

Considering the socio-ecological transition of Europe 2030, and towards a more resilient and informed community, focusing on the forests that are near wildfire risk, DRYADS propose a holistic platform that is able in every state challenge to provide a competitive advantage for EUROPE 2050. The proposed project will cover all the fire management phases (i.e. prevention and preparedness, detection and response, restoration and adaptation). For Phase A - Prevention and Preparedness, DRYADS proposes to use a real-time risk calculator that can receive multiple classification inputs and work with a new proposed neural network-powered Risk factor indicator. A model of fire adapted communities (FAC) will be created in parallel to insurance incentives. DRYADS will also use innovate rubber-based materials, flame retardant wood, and alkali activated construction materials integrating post-wildfires wood ashes (PWA) for fire-resilient buildings and infrastructure. Regarding Phase B - Detection and Response, DRYADS will utilize Copernicus infrastructure, small drones, and airships for improved the space and aerial means. In addition, a reduced logistics footprint for rescue activities will be enabled by detailed analysis of the existing equipment and standardization of the data from smart sensors. Cross region/border collaborations will also be facilitated. Last, for Phase C - Restoration and Adaptation, DRYAD will build a new land and field-based restoration initiative that utilizes all modern techniques such as agroforestry, drones for seed spread, IoT sensors. The initiative will be able to adapt the seeding process based on the ground needs, and on the same time with the help of AI to determine post-fire risks factors.
