The project GREEN TRACK develops Sustainable Technological Solutions for the remediation of contaminated sites affected by mobile persistent chemicals: metals and metalloids, PFAS, organics. We will consider sites with contaminated soil and/or water posing hazards for environment and human health, particularly agricultural production. Innovation combines chemical-physical modification of chars, selection of microbial consortia, and their combinations, to obtain sustainable technological solutions for remediation and prevention of pollution.
During the project, we will scale the technology from the lab to validation in relevant environments (TRL6-7). The production of chars is carbon-neutral and often even carbon-negative. The environmental, social and economic impacts will be evaluated to determine the sustainability of the proposed solutions and a benchmarking with other technologies. We undertake concrete steps for the commercial implementation via the creation of business models, a roadmap and protection of innovations through intellectual property right management. The commercial potential of the technology is evaluated for the European environmental remediation markets and other foreign markets. The project supports EU policy goals of European Green Deal, Zero Pollution, Circular Economy. Stakeholder acceptance and the compatibility of our technology with regulatory frameworks in selected European regions is investigated. The project involves 20 European companies and research institutions across 13 countries.
