Living Norway Colloquium 2021: The ethics and technical know-how of open science in ecology and evolution

Tildelt: kr 99 999

We hereby apply for funding to arrange the third Living Norway Colloquium in fall 2021. This colloqium will be arranged as part of the activities of the Living Norway Ecological Data Network. This network bring together eight Norwegian institutions, that have a concerted effort to contribute to FAIR data management and increase open access to data from ecological research and monitoring programs. Overall, the activities in the network cover both construction of data infrastructure, focus on training and education, as well as netwrok activities. In this third colloquium, we aim to bring together researchers, students and stakeholders that have an interest in FAIR data and open science for a two day colloqium. Following up from the successful colloquium in 2019 and in particular 2020, we will aim for a hybrid type of event, where participants can chose to come to NINA-huset in Trondheim, to join the event in-house, or participate online. This give us flexibility in terms of the size of the conference, and make it easier to bring in an international audience. In general, on day of the colloquium we will have a range of presentations from Norwegian and international experts in the conference theme, but will also convene short discussions following each session. A tentative program as uploaded together with this application. On day two, we will arrange two workshops - aiming for a more "hands-on" participation than on day one. The first workshop will focus on education and teaching of open science approached in ecology and evolution. This workshop will be arranged together with SFU bioCEED at UiB. The second workshop will focus on novel tools for transparent data pipelines in ecology and evolution, focusing in particular on tools developed by the Living Norway network. This workshop will be co-hosted with SFF CBD at NTNU. Based on the experience from 2020 colloquium, we anticipate between 150-200 participants in total across the two days event.
