Geofaredagen 2021

Tildelt: kr 99 999

Geofaredagen is a direct result of the Research Council of Norway's 'fagevaluering' of geosciences in 2012. As a result, the national geohazards council, Geofarerådet, established the need for Geofaredagen, the first of which was held in 2016. The conferences are unique planned events held every few years hosted by different institutions around the country. The event has now established itself as an important platform for exchange between different actors working within the subject area. Geofaredagen 2021 is arranged by the Department of Geosciences, UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. The conference event is set for 19-20 October 2021, hosted by UiT at the Scandic Ishavshotel in Tromsø. UiT and the hotel have a commitment to Covid-19 safety. The even includes a day of conference activities (19.10), followed by an excursion to view local geohazards (20.10) within a few hours drive of the city center. We expect 80-100 participants from Norway and Svalbard. The program for the event includes relevant sessions with speakers covering topics such as landslides, snow avalanches, floods, erosion, tsunamis, earthquakes, and volcanism. The relationship between geohazards and climate is a key topic addressed throughout the conference. The academic program during the conference day is set up as a joint session with short oral presentations, as well as poster exhibitions. The main emphasis is on presentations from students at MSc and PhD level, but others also receive opportunity to present professional work, mainly in the form of posters or key note speeches. The event costs include renting the Scandic Ishavshotel conference facilities, coffee and lunch, a joint dinner, bus transport for the excursion and a lunch pack. We will also provide some travel support to students.
