PES for ReWater Accelerator project

Tildelt: kr 74 999

2021 - 2021

The overall vision of the ReWater Accelerator project is to prototype, pilot and commercialise our novel Desalinator, which is an offshore, autonomous wave-powered desalination buoy using an innovative, patented wave energy converter driving a reverse osmosis system to deliver fresh water directly to shore with zero emissions, becoming an alternative to onshore desalination plants and supporting countries’ decarbonization efforts. Each unit can operate between 1 and 5 km from the shore, far from any sewage discharge and safe for brine disposal and is expected to deliver up to 1,600 m3 of fresh water per day, equal to the daily water consumption of 2,000 households. Desalinator is towed, moored and connected to shore by a pipe on the seabed using standard offshore procedures, reducing the time to service to a third of a solar PV desalination plant. Desalinator is a perfect solution for coastal areas where land and water are scarce. We have performed model testing at SINTEF Ocean (NO) and other third-party studies with two patents granted and one pending. Our new technology to desalinate seawater has a major market potential compared to current state-of-the-art technologies. To increase our commercial success and impact, we have created a Strategic Business Plan, as a detailed roadmap, describing all necessary activities we need to undertake to ensure a successful market introduction. Now, we seek to develop our Commercialisation Plan (CP), which will form an important part of the final Business Innovation Plan (BIP), to be created in this Accelerator project. As the envisaged Accelerator project builds upon a validated prototype technology, most of our efforts will be focused on piloting and commercialisation activities.
