SafeRock’s bold ambition is to offer unique rock-based geopolymer binders as a sustainable substitute to OPC-based concrete, special concretes, and ceramics in an increasing number of applications in the building and construction, and refractories industry. The OPC industry is responsible for 6-8% of all human-made global carbon emissions - more than 3 billion tons CO2/year - consumes large amounts of natural limestone, and releases SOx and NOx that can cause acid rain. The availability of fly ash, a key ingredient in mixed cements, is also decreasing in Europe as coal power plants shut down. Refractories have even higher per ton emissions.
As a breakthrough innovation in sustainable building materials backed by three patents, SR will cater to large-scale technical requirements, regulations and market needs. Raw materials based on mining wastes are abundantly available. The commercialization effort underpins SafeRock’s growth plan, expecting accumulated revenues of €m >200 in 5 years.
