Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are priority chemicals of emerging arctic concern. The knowledge of sources and presence in the environment as well as their potential effects on arctic biota is vital to understand the significance of this treat for future governance. There are several ongoing initiatives in PPCP research in Svalbard without ongoing interactions between some of the research groups. This network initiative is designed to enhance collaboration and quality of PPCP research in Svalbard. We will achieve this through joint workshops and field sampling followed by an intercalibration of sample treatment and analytical techniques for PPCPs. The results will be harmonised protocols for all the steps in environmental PPCP research in the Arctic. We aim to share our data and protocols through open databases and open access publications.
