Arctic Frontiers Emerging Leaders 2022

Tildelt: kr 34 999

Emerging Leaders is an early-career and mentoring program in the Arctic for young professionals from the academic, industry and policy sector. The program brings together leaders and mentors, and indigenous, business, and policy representatives, to tell the Arctic stories in an educational journey through Northern Norway. Through training, educational and cultural activities, and the contributions of competent and committed partners, the Emerging Leaders program serves as an international and cross-cultural platform for dialogue and exchange to support the arctic leaders of the future. The development of ocean industries requires an understanding of which experiences we should carry on with and where we should improve our practices. In the context of my research, a central part is to transfer and adapt proven technologies and designs from the offshore oil and gas industry as basis for development in deep seabed mining. The next step is functionality assessment, and when looking at the Arctic regions it is clear that there are technological and operational challenges that are of high importance to marine engineers. The harsh weather conditions, remoteness, days with little or no daylight, low temperatures, and ice floe are just some of the hazzles of operating infrastructure in the Arctic. During my participation participation at Emerging Leaders 2022 I learned more about aspects of importance to the environment and to the stakeholders of the Arctic.
