Arctic Frontiers Emerging Leaders 2022

Tildelt: kr 34 999

Emerging Leaders is an early-career and mentoring program in the Arctic for young professionals from the academic, industry and policy sector. The program brings together leaders and mentors, and indigenous, business, and policy representatives, to tell the Arctic stories in an educational journey through Northern Norway. Through training, educational and cultural activities, and the contributions of competent and committed partners, the Emerging Leaders program serves as an international and cross-cultural platform for dialogue and exchange to support the arctic leaders of the future. Monitoring the Arctic environment is extremely important to investigate how ecosystems are affected by global warming. Sensor nodes deployed in the Arctic both on the ice and the ocean can measure different parameters, such as temperature, salinity and biological markers. However, collecting data from those nodes is difficult as there is no telecommunication infrastructure in the Arctic area. The alternative I am investigating in my PhD is to use a small satellite communication system to retrieve this data and relay it to the scientists. In my PhD, I have worked with a preliminary design of an Arctic satellite mission, and I started performing radiocommunication measurements on satellites that are necessary to achieve this mission. I hope that participating in this program may bring me closer to the scientists that can benefit from solutions like this.
