16th Annual ScSB conference - Bioinspiration in biomaterials

Tildelt: kr 99 999

Biomaterials are essential in current and future healthcare and will impact both quality of life and medical technology industry in the future. Biomaterials play an important part in surgery, where prosthesis in hips and knees are examples of current use, as well as artificial skin for the treatment of larger wounds. Future directions in biomaterials are within advancing the material surface and function to allow better integration into existing tissue and tailoring of biological responses. Incorporation of responsiveness and targeted delivery are also major directions as well as using biomaterials in structuring tissue for advanced in vitro models. The Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials (ScSB) connects scientists, clinicians, industry and patients in the Nordic and Baltic countries that share interest in biomaterials. The yearly meetings allow members to meet, present and discuss trends in biomaterial science. The 2023 conference will be devoted to “Bioinspiration in Biomaterials”. We will explore the various ways in which biomaterial scientists mimic nature to understand fundamental cell-material interactions and how this can guide us in the development of biomaterial-based therapies. Both mimicking nature in biomaterial development and understanding the biological responses of biomaterials are essential to the development of new advanced biomaterials. This theme has not been explored in the previous ScSB conferences, and we have invited world renowned speakers that previous has not been a part of ScSB that in the intimate atmosphere at Røros, we expect to have a great impact on the scientific communication and networking throughout the conference. The conference will be organized by NTNU and UiO and will be important contributor for the networking and showcasing of Norwegian research in biomaterials to relevant potential international collaborators in ScSB, EU and the USA.
