The aim of this project is to identify and study raised marine deposits from the Early Holocene from two sites in Isfjorden, West Spitsbergen (Bogebekken/Hollendarbukta, Erdmannflya). The study will focus on marine sedimentary processes and environmental changes during the Early Holocene. The study will also compare these past processes occurring during warmer-than-present conditions to modern conditions and processes. The objective of the field work is to map landforms and sediments indicative of relative sea-level and coastal changes. In addition, sediment samples will be collected for benthic foraminifera analysis to reconstruct the marine environment. Data processing will involve geomorphic maps, lithological logs, grain size data, benthic foraminifera abundances, and radiocarbon dating.
